TUCSON – In tribute to the men and women who serve the United States, a local group is helping Tucsonans be more patriotic this Independence Day.
Two residents of the Old Pueblo have made it their mission to re-energize Tucson’s patriotism by giving flags to the flagless.
They began their mission last year on Flag Day, taking donated flags and putting them to good use.
On Saturday, the Flags for the Flagless group will be raising 13 donated flags at the same time. Charley Foley of Flags for the Flagless contrived the original idea when he was thinking of ways to give back to the community.
“I noticed lots of flags poles that aren’t being used,” said Foley. “We have put up 51 flags since then.”
The 13 flags all came from different families.
On Fourth of July morning, volunteers from various groups will begin raising flags at 13 locations at 9 a.m.
Donations can be sent to Flags for the Flagless, c/o Charley Foley, 3661 N. Campbell Ave. # 358, Tucson, AZ 85719.
